The PTA has many programs that are supported through our fundraising efforts at Jefferson!

Some of these programs include:

• Spanish Language Instruction
  The PTA provides and pays for a Spanish Teacher, as well as needed supplies, for classroom instruction from PreK-5th grade and special activities. The goal of this program is to expose the students at a young age to Spanish language and culture.
• Grounds Improvements
  The PTA supports playground and other grounds maintenance and improvements as needed with volunteer hours and funds. 
• Communications
  The PTA publishes and distributes a monthly newsletter, a School Directory (sold for $1), and has recently redesigned the Jefferson Elementary website (www.jeffersonlr.org).
• Reading is Fundamental (RIF)
  The RIF program combines three essential elements to foster children’s literacy: reading motivation, family and community involvement and the excitement of choosing free books to keep!  At Jefferson, the PTA hosts three RIF distributions, providing three free books per student per year.
• Red Ribbon Week
  The PTA sponsors a fun-filled week with a different theme each day with a focus on saying NO to drugs! The mission of a Red Ribbon campaign is to present a unified and visible commitment toward the creation of a drug-free America!
• STARS Tutoring
  This is a PTA-sponsored, organized volunteer reading and basic math-mentoring program for Jefferson students.  Volunteers are matched with a particular student and develop a special one-on-one relationship throughout the year.
• Fall Fling & Carnival
  This is a PTA-sponsored family event, to be held on Friday, October 10th.  There are great games to play, a delicious cakewalk, as well as a fun, kid-focused silent auction (bid on a “no homework pass,” or to be “principal for the day!”).  It is a great time of food, fun and fellowship for the students and their families!
• Teacher Grants
  Teachers have unique supply needs from class to class and grade to grade. The Jefferson PTA accepts grant proposals each year from teachers. Grant awards vary depending upon funds available, award requests, and other factors.
