The PTA has many programs that are supported through our fundraising efforts at Jefferson!

Some of these programs include:

• Grounds Improvements
  The PTA supports playground and other grounds maintenance and improvements as needed with volunteer hours and funds. 
• Communications
  The PTA publishes and distributes a monthly newsletter, has a School Directory App (new in 2011), and frequently updates the Jefferson Elementary website (www.jeffersonlr.org).
• Reading is Fundamental (RIF)
  The RIF program combines three essential elements to foster children’s literacy: reading motivation, family and community involvement and the excitement of choosing free books to keep!  At Jefferson, the PTA hosts three RIF distributions, providing three free books per student per year.
• Red Ribbon Week
  The PTA sponsors a fun-filled week with a different theme each day with a focus on saying NO to drugs! The mission of a Red Ribbon campaign is to present a unified and visible commitment toward the creation of a drug-free America!
• STARS Tutoring
  This is a PTA-sponsored, organized volunteer reading and basic math-mentoring program for Jefferson students.  Volunteers are matched with a particular student and develop a special one-on-one relationship throughout the year.
• Fall Fling & Carnival
  This is a PTA-sponsored family event, to be held on Friday, October 21st.  There are great games to play, a delicious cakewalk, as well as a fun, kid-focused silent auction (bid on a “no homework pass,” or to be “principal for the day!”).  It is a great time of food, fun and fellowship for the students and their families!
• Technology Improvements
  Upgrading existing technology and adding new technology is a PTA focus. The PTA is purchasing a number of iPads for curriculum enrichment as well as developing a mobile science center for teacher use to augment science education. 
• After School Enrichment
  Plans are underway to roll out an after school enrichment program aimed to provide a variety of educational opportunities even after the last bell rings!
